SAFETY
Good compartmentation will promote life safety as the fire will be contained and any occupants will have more time to evacuate the building
One of our qualified inspectors will carry out a thorough fire compartmentation survey against industry standards, ISO 17020: 2012. We’ll examine all the compartmentation measures in the different divisions of your building to check they’re working effectively.
These could include fire-resistant walls, floors, doors and other barriers, such as fire-stopping, fire doors and cavity barriers, which help prevent the spread of fire, smoke and heat. This is especially critical for buildings with a sleeping risk, such as care homes, hotels and apartments, so it’s important to check that they meet regulations.
The purpose of any of these barriers is to contain a fire within a certain area, giving occupants more time to escape from the building safely and firefighters more time to control the fire.
Our survey will identify any breaches or penetrations in the fire barriers caused by the installation of pipes, ducts or cables. We’ll make sure they are sealed properly to maintain the integrity of the fire compartmentation. We’ll also check that any fire doors are certified, appropriately fitted, self-closing and in good working condition. And we’ll assess the condition of any escape routes to ensure they’re safe for evacuation during a fire.
After our inspection, we’ll produce a comprehensive fire compartmentation report with our recommendations and provide photographic evidence of all our findings. We’ll highlight any compliance issues and recommend any remedial work required to make sure the building meets fire safety requirements.
Good compartmentation will promote life safety as the fire will be contained and any occupants will have more time to evacuate the building
It will also maintain the building’s integrity and minimise structural damage during a fire.
You minimise the risk of getting a legal penalty for non-compliance as the survey ensures that buildings meet fire safety regulations
You will find it easier to get insurance as most insurance companies require proof of fire compartmentation as part of their safety conditions for buildings.
